ST. JOSEPH’S COLLEGE AMONG RECIPIENTS OF AACN NURSING AWARD

December 22, 2020 LI

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – December 22, 2020 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce it has received the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s (AACN) 2020 Exemplary Academic-Practice Partnership Award along with the Asthma Coalition of Long Island, Molloy College and SUNY Farmingdale.

“Receiving this award was a pleasant surprise,” said Maria Fletcher, R.N., Ph.D., SJC’s director of nursing. “We have been partners with the Asthma Coalition for many years. It has been a remarkable partnership providing valuable experiences for our students. To be recognized for this partnership is heartwarming and I am pleased to share this with both Molloy College and SUNY Farmingdale.”

The inspiration for the creation of the partnership between the Asthma Coalition of Long Island, SJC, Molloy College and SUNY Farmingdale was the high rates of asthma in local communities of poverty and diversity across Long Island. St. Joseph’s helps facilitate asthma self-management education in school districts with the most need. The College’s nursing students serve in these districts, receiving evidence-based education during community clinical placements.

For more than 19 years, the partnership has demonstrated success in its sustainability over years, stability in its shared vision, formality, focus and strategic plan – and now serves as a best-practice prototype whose structure and process has been replicated in two regions of upstate New York. The coalition nominated the group of colleges and universities for this award during a presentation at the 2020 AACN Academic Leadership Conference.
