SJC Professor Named Psychologist of the Year

Patchogue, NY June 25, 2009 St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that Psychology Professor Dr. Diane Sherlip was named Psychologist of the Year by the Suffolk County Psychological Association on June 5, 2009 at the Stony Brook Yacht Club. Dr. Sherlip was also elected as president of the SCPA, and she will serve a six year term.

The Association recognized Dr. Sherlip "because of the work she does for the association, her work at the College and her contribution to the board, said former SCPA President Dr. Barbara Fontana.

Present at the ceremony were psychologists and SCPA members from all over Suffolk County, where current SPCA President Dr. Steven Hartman spoke about Dr. Sherlips achievements and presented her with a plaque honoring her "distinguished service, wisdom, generosity, service, integrity, compassion and advocacy.

Dr. Sherlip has been at St. Josephs for nine years, where she teaches on both campuses and is active with the Colleges Office of Diversity Initiatives. She also owns a private practice in Huntington Village, where she specializes in adult and couples counseling. Dr. Sherlip has been a board member of the SCPA for 10 years, and is former chairperson of the Independent Practice Committee. She also serves as consulting supervising psychologist for the Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities (ACLD).
