Accreditation FAQ

Do the SJC teacher candidates have an impact on P-12 learning and development?

In Spring 2018, a pilot was run with a sample of AE teacher candidates during their student teaching experience.  In order to demonstrate a teacher candidate’s impact on P-12 learning and development, each student teacher used the pre-and post-test technique.  Then, the pre-test scores were compared with the post-test scores. The comparisons resulted in the following:

  • 71% of the students earned a higher score on the post-test than the pre-test
  • 20% of the students earned the same score, or a score between 1-2 points
  • 9% of the students earned a lower score on the post-test than the pre-test

The teacher candidates additionally wrote a reflection on how the pre-test informed their teaching of the topic, and a conclusion about their possible impact on student learning.

This case study process will be refined and then sent to alumni in the fall 2018 semester for them to complete in order to demonstrate impact on P-12 learning.
