Brooklyn Voices Presents Acclaimed Novelist Richard Price

February 09, 2015

Brooklyn, N.Y. – February 9, 2015St. Joseph’s College (SJC), in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, is pleased to announce that it will welcome American Novelist and Screenwriter Richard Price for the first event of the 2015 Brooklyn Voices Lecture Series. At this talk, he will read from and discuss his new book, The Whites (written under his pen name, Harry Brandt) on Thursday, February 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium located on the College’s Brooklyn Campus.

“Richard Price is a Lower East Side legend, but his work travels well … and we're honored to have him join us here in Brooklyn," said Ted Hamm, associate professor and chair of the journalism and new media studies department at the Brooklyn Campus of SJC. "It is a pleasure for all of us here at SJC to host the Brooklyn Voices Series with our friends at Greenlight—here in the heart of literary Brooklyn, everyone is welcome."

Acclaimed novelist Richard Price is the author of eight previous novels, including Clockers and Lush Life, which have won universal praise for their vividly etched portrayals of urban America. His new novel, The Whites, is an electrifying tale of a New York City police detective under siege by an unsolved murder, by his own dark past and by a violent stalker seeking revenge. Sergeant Billy Graves, now in his 40s, has somehow survived the misadventures of his early career in the South Bronx and works with the Manhattan Night Watch, a small team of detectives charged with responding to all post-midnight felonies from Wall Street to Harlem. Then, a call comes in that changes everything. During Brooklyn Voices, Price will talk about his new book and his New York characters.

This event is free and open to the public; a book signing will follow the reading and discussion. For more information, contact Michael Banach at 718.940.5584 or email [email protected].
