Brooklyn Voices Presents Nathaniel Philbrick

May 11, 2016

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – May 12, 2016 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC), in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, is pleased to announce that it will welcome historian Nathaniel Philbrick to discuss his latest work, Valiant Ambition, in conversation with NBC’s Bob Dotson on Thursday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. in SJC Brooklyn’s Tuohy Hall Auditorium.

“With his latest work, Valiant Ambition, Nathaniel Philbrick turns his scholarly eye to the pivotal years of the American Revolution and the challenges that the founding fathers faced during these critical times,” said Jill Rehmann, Ph.D., vice president for academic affairs at SJC Brooklyn. “I'm especially looking forward to learning about the role New York City, and in particular our home borough of Brooklyn, played during this period.”

Valiant Ambition is a story of battles lost and won, evoking a Shakespearean tragedy that unfolds in the key relationship of George Washington and Benedict Arnold. Philbrick will discuss his vision of a fledgling nation struggling with internal strife and high ideals, with resonances that echo today, with Emmy Award-winning journalist and author Bob Dotson, creator of the NBC series American Story.

Tickets for this event are $30 and include a copy of Valiant Ambition. There will be an opportunity to have to the book signed by Philbrick following the discussion. For more information, contact Michael Banach at 718.940.5584 or [email protected].
