SJC Hosts Graduate Management Research Symposium with Entrepreneur Alumna as Keynote

April 17, 2015

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – April 17, 2015 – The Department of Graduate Management Studies at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will host its spring graduate management studies research symposium on Saturday, May 2 at 9 a.m. in the Tuohy Hall Auditorium on the College’s Brooklyn Campus. At this event, Taryn L. Hunter, M.B.A. ’08 will present the keynote address.

“Managers must always scan their business environments to identify key issues that may impact their bottom line and these presentations provide the business sector with a window into current business issues,” said Dr. Sharon Didier, co-director and associate professor for the Department of Graduate Management Studies. “The work of our students provides a unique perspective that combines their individual professional experiences with rationalization that incorporates both theory and best practice.”

This event will feature the research from groups of M.B.A. candidates and will delve into issues such as how to assimilate returning veterans to the workplace, the role of millennials in corporate America and the impact of minority mobility in the workplace. The topics of study reflect the changing needs of the workforce in these areas and will present compelling, data-driven solutions to the identified challenges. These issues were analyzed and framed through the unique model that drives the SJC graduate management program, focusing on a synthesis of professional experience, managerial abilities and emotional intelligence.

Originally from the Midwest, Taryn L. Hunter, M.B.A. ’08 volunteered with local rescue and adoption groups at Prospect Park Animal Clinic in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Park Slope. After speaking with Prospect Park Animal Clinic clients who wanted someone to come to their home and care for their pets, Hunter saw an opportunity to combine her love of caring for animals and her business acumen. After a successful career in higher education, Hunter followed her passion and launched Brooklyn Cattitude and Street Strutters Pet Sitting and Dog Walking in 2014.

This event is free and open to the public. To RSVP for this event or for any questions, contact Karen Pane at 718.940.5729 or [email protected].
