SJC Hosts TASC Exam Seminar

April 20, 2016

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – April 20, 2016 – The Department of Organizational Management at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) recently partnered with the Office of Adult and Continuing Education for the New York City Department of Education to host a professional development seminar for adult learners working toward their TASC exam (formerly known as the general equivalency degree).

“St. Joseph's College is committed to the success of all learners in the communities it serves,” said Sharon Didier, Ph.D., associate professor, and co-chair of the department of Organizational Management and Graduate Management Studies program. “By providing this valuable information to these participants, we aim to not only prepare these students for professional success but also instill upon them the importance of furthering their educations.”

Participants visited SJC Brooklyn during day and evening sessions and learned valuable skills to enable their successful entry into the workforce. These seminars covered a range of topics such as interpersonal communication skills, critical thinking and client service for a basic understanding of the soft skills required to thrive in a professional setting. In addition, staff from SJC Brooklyn spoke about the college application process and the benefits that come with earning a college degree.

“The participants enjoyed hearing from SJC alumni and faculty about all of the opportunities that come with a college degree,” said Stephanie Spencer, admissions counselor at SJC Brooklyn. “When they first arrived, many of them were nervous, but at the conclusion of the event they were excited about all of the possibilities that await them.”
