SJC Reaches Out to Military and Veterans

August 07, 2013

PATCHOGUE and BROOKLYN, N.Y. August 8, 2013 St. Joseph's College (SJC) will host a special open house for active military and veterans on both its Long Island and Brooklyn campuses. The Long Island Campus event will be held on Tuesday, August 20 from 4 8 p.m. and the Brooklyn Campus event will take place on Wednesday, August 21 from 3 7 p.m. Both events will introduce the varied programs and benefits available for returning veterans and active military at SJC.

"The open house events will serve as one-stop shops for attendees to complete their application, register for classes and complete all the necessary paperwork for the G.I. Bill or tuition assistance; it doesn't get much easier than that, said Shannon ONeill, assistant dean for the School of Professional and Graduate Studies on the Long Island Campus. "With our discounted rates for active duty, guard and reservists, as well as being a Yellow Ribbon School, military and veteran students can get a private education at a college that really understands their needs, for little to no cost."

The New York metropolitan area welcomed home 85,000 troops since October 2001, adding to the more than 950,000 veterans in New York State. Long Island is second to San Diego, C.A. in the nation for the percentage of veterans in its overall population. SJC has the programs and assistance to serve this ever-increasing population.

"As a former marine, having a dedicated military adviser, as well as supportive staff and faculty to assist me throughout my college experience was invaluable, said Paul Milazzo 14, U.S. Marine 2004-2008. "Their knowledge, understanding and compassion have helped me reach a goal that I never thought possibleobtaining my college degree.

A military-friendly school, SJC offers online, on- and off-site class schedules for our military and veteran students, including class offerings at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn and Fort Wadsworth in Staten Island, N.Y. As a proud member of the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, the staff at SJC can answer questions about tuition assistance and all other military benefits.
