SJC Set to Celebrate 100th Annual Commencement Ceremony

BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – MAY 13, 2019 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce the details for its 100th annual commencement ceremonies. 

SJC Brooklyn’s 100th annual commencement ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 19 at 1 p.m. at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge. SJC Long Island’s 100th annual commencement ceremony will be held on Wednesday, May 29 at 3 p.m. at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. 

“Our annual commencement ceremonies allow us to celebrate the success and achievements of our graduates, but this year is exceptionally special because it is our 100th Annual Commencement,” said Donald Boomgaarden, Ph.D., president of SJC. “We are proud of our rich history and the more than 41,000 alumni who have earned degrees at SJC. This year’s graduates should also be proud of their achievements as they join the ranks of our exceptional alumni and leave SJC to fulfill their dreams.”

The featured speakers for this year include: 
• SJC Brooklyn Keynote Speaker: Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D., SJC president
• SJC Brooklyn Student Speaker: Adnan Hoq, B.S. in Computer Science
• SJC Long Island Keynote Speaker: Father Francis Pizzarelli, S.M.M., DCSW
• SJC Long Island Graduate Student Speaker: Sarah Griffiths, M.A. in Literacy and Cognition
• SJC Long Island Undergraduate Student Speaker: Courtney Cowie-Sladsky, B.A. in English/ Adolescence Education

100 years ago, SJC awarded bachelor's degrees to a class of 14 pioneering women. Today, the College serves more than 5,000 students pursuing degrees in over 50 different academic disciplines. This year’s commencement ceremonies will celebrate SJC’s rich history of academic excellence and service in keeping with the College's motto, Esse Non Videri – “To be, not to seem.”
