Teacher Preparation Programs Receive Highest Accreditation

October 23, 2013

BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, N.Y. October 24, 2013 - St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) recently completed its periodic evaluation of the Colleges Adolescent Education and Child Study programs and has awarded them their highest certification.

"I congratulate all the members of the Department of Education both child study and adolescent education on this exceptional achievement, said SJC President S. Elizabeth A. Hill, C.S.J., J.D. "While I am not surprised, because I know that we have superb programs, it is wonderful to have that confirmed by a group of peers.

Under the leadership of S. Nancy Gilchriest, S.S.N.D., Ed.D., chairperson and associate professor in the Department of Education at SJC, a comprehensive brief submission addressed the Colleges programs in relation to the five standards of accreditation used by CAEP to measure the quality and effectiveness of teacher preparation. This brief, which took two years to compile, assessed both undergraduate and graduate programs at SJC. Following its completion and evaluation of this review, the Council recertified the Colleges programs for the next seven years, the maximum permissible period.

"Our faculty did a magnificent job, not only in the preparation of the brief, but every day in the classroom and in advising and guiding their students, said S. Elizabeth.
