Brooklyn Voices Presents Barbara Kingsolver

October 03, 2018

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – October 3, 2018 – St. Joseph’s College, in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, is pleased to welcome Barbara Kingsolver as part of its fall Brooklyn Voices lecture series. At this event, Kingsolver will discuss her new book, Unsheltered, in conversation with author Julie Orringer on Monday, October 15 at 7:30 p.m. in SJC Brooklyn’s Tuohy Hall Auditorium.

“One of the challenges of higher education is to provide students with both a passion for learning and the necessary resilience to thrive in spite of life's constant professional and personal challenges,” said Michael Hanophy, Ph.D., interim executive dean and professor of biology at SJC Brooklyn. “In her latest book, Kingsolver illustrates that tumultuous change and hardship are present throughout the course of history and the manner in which we deal with them defines who we are as individuals.”

Unsheltered, Kingsolver’s eighth novel, is a timely and eloquent exploration of societies in crisis—both in our own tumultuous age and during a similarly turbulent turning point in the 19th century. With narrative inventiveness and wit, this New York Times bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize finalist layers two stories, each unfolding in the same New Jersey town almost a century and a half apart.

Tickets are $33 and include a copy of the book. Following the discussion, there will be an opportunity to have the book signed by Kingsolver. To RSVP, click here
