BROOKLYN VOICES PRESENTS HERMIONE LEE

February 17, 2021

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – February 17, 2021 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC), in partnership with Greenlight Bookstore, is pleased to announce that acclaimed biographer Hermione Lee will discuss her biography of playwright Tom Stoppard with him virtually via a live webinar on Wednesday, February 24 at 5 p.m.

"I can't think of a better way to launch the spring series of Brooklyn Voices than to welcome this great biographer of so many of modern literature's most important writers," said Phillip Dehne, Ph.D., executive dean and professor of history at SJC Brooklyn. "This event is unique for our series. While we've presented memoirs and biographies, we've never had the actual subject of the biography in conversation with the writer."

Hermione Lee, acclaimed biographer of Virginia Woolf, Penelope Fitzgerald and more, turns her attention in her latest book to the towering and beloved literary figure Tom Stoppard. Known for his dizzying narrative inventiveness and intense attention to language, Stoppard's most acclaimed creations remain as fresh and moving today as when they dazzled their first audiences, and his works span a remarkable spectrum of literary genres: theater, radio, film, TV, journalism and fiction. Lee's Tom Stoppard: A Life seamlessly weaves Stoppard's life and work together into a vivid, insightful and always riveting portrait of a remarkable man. Lee discusses her latest biography with the esteemed Tom Stoppard himself at this exclusive virtual event.

Tickets for this event are $45-50 and include a signed hardcover copy of the book, as well as a signed bookplate. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
