The Hill Center Rules

The Hill Center Rules

  • All students, staff and faculty must provide a valid St. Joseph’s ID card to use the facility.
  • There is a $10 fee per visit for guests. All guests and sponsors must follow the guest policy. All payments are accepted in cash only. We do not accept bills greater than $20.
  • In case of an emergency, please exit out of the main entrance or side exit doors in the gym at the end of each corridor, which lead to the back of the building (walk around to the street).
  • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited at St. Joseph’s College.
  • Smoking is prohibited inside and around the premises of The Hill Center.
  • Please use the general bathrooms in the lobby area. Outside food and drink are prohibited inside the gymnasium, except plastic water bottles.
  • Glass bottles, helium balloons and hair spray are prohibited in The Hill Center.
  • Fans may cheer from the bleachers only and must walk around the outside perimeter of court when entering and leaving the gym during events.

The Hill Center Guest Policy

  • All members of the St. Joseph’s College community are encouraged to use the facility for free.
  • Alumni and guests pay a $10 fee per visit. All payments are accepted in cash only. We do not accept bills greater than $20. ALL guests need to fill out and sign a waiver located at the front desk prior to utilizing the facility for each visit.
  • Members of the St. Joseph’s community are permitted to bring up to five guests. This privilege may be suspended without notice if scheduled activities would render the presence of guests impractical. No guest under the age of 16 is to be left unsupervised by his/her host.
  • Sponsors must remain with their guest in the area they are using at all times. Failure to obey these policies may result in the guest and the guest sponsor being ordered to leave the facility, or suspended from using The Hill Center.

Fitness Center Rules and Regulations

  • Must leave valid school ID with fitness center supervisor (at the desk on the third floor).
  • Sign in and out when using the fitness center or sporting equipment.
  • No outside guests (unless they pay the $10 fee, sign the waiver, and are over 16 years of age).
  • Appropriate athletic attire must be worn — no street clothes or shoes are allowed.
  • Shirts must be worn at all times.
  • No gum, outside food or drinks (other than plastic water bottles) are permitted.
  • No music played out loud. Music devices are permitted only when used with headphones.
  • Books, belongings and gym bags are to be left in appropriate locker rooms (locks left on lockers overnight are subjected to be clipped by an athletic department staff member).
  • The following clothing is not acceptable as workout attire: jeans, jean shorts, khakis, khaki shorts, slip-on sandals and slip-on sneakers. Sports bras must be covered with shirts.
  • No equipment is to be removed from the rooms.
  • Workouts are only permitted when a staff member is present.
  • Replace weights on weight trees after use.
  • Wipe down the equipment after use.
  • Work within your own physical limits.
  • No loitering.
  • Staff members may require participants to leave the fitness center if their behavior is deemed disruptive, dangerous or inappropriate.

Equipment Rental Policy

  • Must leave valid school ID with fitness center supervisor (located at the desk on the third floor).
  • Sign in and out when using the fitness center’s sporting equipment.
  • Failure to bring back any equipment will result in the removal of privileges.
  • Basketballs and other equipment are not to be left on the court after usage, or given to someone else besides the fitness center supervisor.
  • Any damage to the equipment must be brought to the attention of the fitness center supervisor.

Bears Den Rules and Regulations

  • No loitering.
  • Intercollegiate athletics, tournaments, exhibitions and/or special College events take priority over open recreational periods. Visit and The Hill Center twitter/instagram (@thehillcenter) for updates.
  • Only sneakers or aerobic shoes must be worn.
  • Please clean any excess debris off bottom of sneakers before entering.
  • Attire should be appropriate to the activity. No street attire.
  • If necessary, change clothing and leave gym bags in locker room on third floor (locks left overnight on lockers may be clipped by an Athletic Department staff member).
  • Gum, food and drinks (other than water bottles) are not permitted in the gymnasium.
  • Miscellaneous items left anywhere other than bleacher seating will be disposed of.
  • Staff may require participants to leave the area if they deem their behavior to be dangerous, disruptive or inappropriate.
