The Hill Center Rules

In order to decrease the potential for the spread of COVID-19, social distancing and supervised health practices will be enforced in all areas of Recreation and Fitness throughout St. Joseph’s College Brooklyn. Facilities will be redesigned in order to maintain distancing and safety. The following will be put into place in order to abide by our current plan:

HILL CENTER GENERAL RULES

  • Must present daily Health Clearance Pass upon entering the building.
  • All students, staff and faculty need to provide a valid SJC ID card to use the facility.
  • Must have face covering on at all times.
  • No outside visitors allowed.
  • No loitering in the lobby.
  • The use of alcohol and tobacco is prohibited in all SJC facilities.
  • Please use the general bathrooms in the lobby area. Outside food and drink are prohibited inside the gymnasium, except plastic water bottles.

Security will enforce these rules. If they aren’t obeyed, you will be escorted out of The Hill Center permanently.

The Hill Center Guest Policy

Guests are not allowed inside The Hill Center at this time.

Fitness Center Rules and Regulations

Restrictions

  • MAX OCCUPANCY: 6 (4 cardio, 2 weight room)
  • Locker rooms offline.
  • Dance studio offline for recreation usage.
  • No loitering in or around the Fitness Center.
  • No outside guests allowed.
  • No gum, outside food or drinks (other than water bottles) are permitted.
  • No music played aloud.
  • No equipment is to be removed from the rooms.
  • Replace weights on weight trees after use.
  • Work within your own physical limits.
  • Staff members may require participants to leave the Fitness Center if their behavior is deemed disruptive, dangerous or inappropriate.

Reservations

  • Must visit sjcbears.com/thehillcenter and create a reservation to go use SJCBK Fitness Center.
  • Time slots will be broken up by 1 hour sessions. (45 minutes for workout, 15 minutes for cleaning).
  • Must have reservations verified with a Fitness Center Supervisor upon entering.
  • Workouts are only permitted when a staff member is present.

Attire

  • Must wear face covering at all times.
  • If a person has pre-existing medical conditions where a face covering cannot be worn, must maintain minimum 10 feet distance from others.
  • Appropriate athletic attire must be worn—no street clothes or shoes allowed.
  • Shirts must be worn at all times.
  • The following clothing is not acceptable as workout attire: jeans, jean shorts, khakis, khaki shorts, slip-on sandals and slip-on sneakers. Sports bras must be covered with shirts.

Cleaning

  • All equipment/surfaces must be wiped down after use with provided disinfectant wipes in the Fitness Center.
  • Fitness Center Supervisors will stay vigilant in following up during the 15 minute break to make sure proper sanitization is completed.

Equipment Rental Policy

  • Must have reservations verified with a Fitness Center Supervisor upon entering.
  • Must leave valid school ID with Fitness Center Supervisor.
  • Sign-in and Sign-out when using Fitness Center’s Sporting Equipment
  • Failure to bring back any equipment will result in the removal of privileges.
  • Basketballs/Equipment are not to be left on the court after usage or given to someone else besides the Fitness Center Supervisor.
  • Rentable Sporting equipment must be sanitized by the user and Fitness Center Supervisor.
  • Any damage to the equipment must be brought to the attention of the Fitness Center Supervisor.

Open Gym Rules and Regulations

Restrictions

  • MAX OCCUPANCY: 8 (2 people per basket)
  • Locker rooms offline.
  • No loitering or congregating in any area of gym.
  • No gum, food or drinks (other than water bottles) are permitted in the gymnasium.
  • Intercollegiate athletics, tournaments, exhibitions and/or special College events take priority over open recreational periods. Visit sjcbears.com and The Hill Center twitter/instagram (@thehillcenter) for updates.
  • Miscellaneous items left anywhere besides bleacher seating will resolve in disposal.
  • Staff may require participants to leave the area if they deem behavior to be dangerous, disruptive or inappropriate.

  • Must visit sjcbears.com/thehillcenter and create a reservation to go use Hill Center Open Gym.
  • Time slots will be broken up by 1 hour sessions.
  • Must have reservations verified with a Fitness Center Supervisor upon entering.

Attire

  • Must wear face covering at all times.
  • If a person has pre-existing medical conditions where a face covering cannot be worn, must maintain minimum 10 feet distance from others.
  • Only sneakers or aerobic shoes must be worn.
  • Please clean any excess debris off the bottom of sneakers before entering.
  • Attire should be appropriate to the activity. No street attire.

Tracking and Tracing

In the case of an individual showing symptoms while in the gym or fitness center, responsible parties must notify the closest SJC security officer in the surrounding areas and immediately provide them with information on where the individual has been throughout the gym or fitness center.
