Join Us for a Special Showing of the Award-Winning Documentary Kings Park: Stories from an American Mental Institution

Film will be followed by a panel discussion led by Lucy Winer, Filmmaker.

Panel discussants will include:

  • Janice L. Gibeau R.N., Ph.D., Clinician, Educator, and Administrator Inpatient and Community-based Mental Health Services 
  • A representative from Hands Across Long Island (HALI)

At the age of 17, Lucy was committed to the female violent ward of Kings Park State Hospital following a series of failed suicide attempts. Thirty years later, as an award-winning documentary director, Lucy returns to Kings Park for the first time since her discharge. Her journey back sparks a decade-long effort to learn the story of the now abandoned institution that once held her captive. For additional information about the Kings Park documentary, go to
