Damien L. Duchamp was born in Paris, France then grew up in Woodstock, NY. He holds degrees from SUNY New Paltz, Clemson University, and Gwynedd Mercy University. After spending thirteen years as a college administrator (residence life, fraternity/sorority life, student activities), he became a brand ambassador for Evian Water. In this role he visited nearly 100 venues each week, leading him to consult with various venues and brands. Soon after, Damien began teaching as an adjunct professor. Six years later he became a full time faculty member and head of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism at St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, NY.
Over the last ten years 'ProfD' has taught over 25 different courses, many of which he has designed or re-imagined for online or hybrid delivery. Most recently he developed Dark Tourism, International Destinations, Food and Beverage Operations and Food and Travel Writing based on student and industry feedback. Damien enjoys collaborating with colleagues at SJC to host dining etiquette dinners, fraternity/sorority retreats, cocktail receptions and events like BlockVariable (blockchain and cryptocurrency conference) and Interview360 (interview skills for high school CTE students).
Beyond his primary academic role, Dr. Duchamp is involved in his designated professional association. He is the current Director of Member Services & Development within the NENA Federation and also an active member in the ICHRIE conference, networking, and membership committees. As the Executive Director of ‘Hospitalented,’ Damien is committed to global hospitality education. Locally he produces programs such as HospiChallenge, Not So Scary Foods, Art in a Bottle and the Airline Expo through the local college chapter. Globally, Dr. Duchamp has developed projects focused primarily on West Africa. One such project is called HospiGo, which utilizes microSD chips to disseminate tourism education to areas of the world where formal education, internet and electricity is hard to come by. Ghana was the site for his doctoral research, resulting in a dissertation entitled “Perceptions of the Hospitality and Tourism Industries by 18-24 Year Olds in Ghana, West Africa.” He is committed to developing a vibrant tourism ecosystem there, and is currently writing a book on the topic.
