David J. Hegarty, Ph.D.
David Hegarty, is a part time lecturer in the Department of Criminal Justice and the Executive Director & CEO of Hope For Youth. In addition to child welfare services, Hope For Youth is the largest non-profit provider of juvenile justice programs in the Nassau-Suffolk region with 8 unique programs ranging from Non-Secure Detention to home based preventive services reaching over 500 youth annually.
Dr. Hegarty holds a Ph.D. in Community Psychology from the Union Institute and is a New York State Licensed Marital and Family Therapist. Dr. Hegarty has been an invited speaker or panelist at conferences for the NYS Association of Substance Abuse Providers, Child and Family Services Association, National Community Sentencing Association, the Child Welfare League of America, Adelphi University, the Council of Family & Child Caring Agencies, the Suffolk County Criminal Justice Addiction Workgroup and the Suffolk County Family Court/ Suffolk Bar Association.
