Bio

An associate professor of English and American studies and coordinator of the film/media studies program, Peter Mascuch has worked at St. Joseph’s College since 2003.

Dr. Mascuch specializes in English and film studies. His research and scholarly interests focus particularly on American film, literature and culture since 1945. Prior to working at St. Joseph’s College, Dr. Mascuch taught at a number of schools, including Iona College, University of New Hampshire and Queens College.  

Dr. Mascuch serves on several committees at St. Joseph’s College, including the College-Wide Assessment Committee; Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow Committee; Faculty Learning Community on Teaching Excellence; and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Committee. He is also a regular programmer and speaker at the Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center in Patchogue, New York. Dr. Mascuch is currently working on a book, Nightmares of the Cold War Dream Factory: The Hollywood-on-Hollywood Films of the Fifties, which takes an in-depth look at American cinema and the culture of that decade through the analysis of some of its most expressive movies.

Dr. Mascuch has received various honors and awards and is a three-time recipient of the Faculty Development Grant from St. Joseph’s College. He is also a member of numerous organizations, such as the Society for Cinema Studies, American Culture Association and Literature/Film Association.
