Steven Fuchs received his Ph.D. in American History from Stony Brook University in 2002 and has been with St. Joseph's College since 2003. He teaches courses on American history, U.S. foreign relations, postwar America, East Asia, and oral history as well as a freshman seminar on veterans. He also supervises the History Department's internship program.
Steven Fuchs has served the college in several roles. As Coordinator of Global Studies from 2006 to 2012, he supervised the development of short term and long term study abroad programs throughout the world. In 2010, he was a founding member of Blue Stars and Yellow Ribbons: The St. Joseph's College-Veterans Community Initiative, which was designed to integrate the St. Joseph's College community with that of the Long Island State Veterans Home and the Northport VA Medical Center through the development of mutually beneficial academic and co-curricular programs. In 2019, he and several colleagues established the Food Insecurity Committee in order to explore student hunger on campus and the resources and opportunities available to assist students. From those efforts SJC LI Food for Thought was born, "an SJC Long Island initiative designed to identify students who are at risk of food insecurity, assist in identifying sources of food assistance, provide food assistance, and create safe spaces for personal and confidential conversations." In November 2020, the SJC LI Food For Thought Pantry opened to support members of the SJC community who face hunger by providing nonperishable food choices.
