During intersession (January 4-27, 2021) the libraries will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. by appointment only. Access is restricted to current members of the college community (students, faculty and staff) carrying a valid SJC identification card. Please log in to the MySJC Portal and use the Callahan Library Appointment Form or the McEntegart Library Appointment Form to submit a request. For general inquiries, please use the Chat Service or email [email protected] or [email protected]. The Spring 2021 schedule will be in effect on January 28, 2021.
To enable contactless returns whenever possible, books may be deposited in the bins provided at Callahan Library (located outside and inside of the library) and McEntegart Library (in the lobby and at circulation). Other items (e.g., DVDs, test kits, laptops, video equipment) should be returned to a staff member at the circulation desk in order to be checked in upon arrival.
Seating is available at computer workstations, tables and carrels not indicated by a social distancing sign. The group study rooms are closed until further notice. Signage in some areas, including the stacks, may indicate one-way traffic and/or limited capacity. The McEntegart curriculum library has designated entrance and exit doors, with a limited room capacity and no seating.
Materials from the circulating book collection may be loaned, with all returned items subject to a quarantine period. Due to COVID protocols, there are restrictions on access to reference and reserve materials.
The aisles in the print reference stacks are currently off limits but titles may be accessed and scanned with assistance from a reference librarian. Print reserve materials will not circulate due to quarantine requirements, but the pertinent chapter or section needed will be scanned and emailed to the user. Please use the Callahan Library Student Scanning Request Form or the McEntegart Library Student Scanning Request Form.
Journal articles and book chapters may be requested and will be sent to SJC email accounts. Due to restrictions in place at most academic libraries, it is not possible to request books at this time.
Yes. Reference librarians will be staffing the Chat Service to answer questions and make recommendations. The intersession schedule will be available on the Library Calendar.
The libraries are following college protocols in place as outlined in the SJCNY Fall 2020 Reopening Plan. Measures being taken that specifically relate to the libraries include the quarantining of print materials and the disinfecting of non-print materials upon return and/or after use (both on and off the premises). As a health and safety measure, headphones will no longer be circulated for public use. While the use of personal listening devices is encouraged, disposable earbuds will be available at the circulation desk.
Due to space limitations, appointments cannot be made until further notice. Requests for information should be directed to Mayumi Miyaoka (Brooklyn) or Adele Fitzgerald (Long Island). Donations to the archives and the libraries have been suspended indefinitely.
