Immediate need for a full-time applicant to assist the Placement Coordinator of Special Education with arranging student teaching placements every semester/ term.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the record keeping of student assignments every semester
  • Schedule and assist the facilitator host onsite workshops mandated for students’ attainment of NYS Teaching Certifications
  • Collect and record students’ fieldwork and student teaching hours with EXCEL and Google Software
  • Prepare seminar section lists for registrar using the college-wide SJC Portal
  • Update the Departmental Portal Page with Important Meeting dates, and application forms every semester
  • Prepare Google Forms for students and supervisors to provide placement details and verification of assignments
  • Regularly update Microsoft EXCEL AAQEP file every term with students’ placement hours, and assignments (District/ School/ Address/ Cooperating Teacher) for annual NYS accreditation
  • Guide students with necessary information to attain NYS fingerprinting clearance and setting up a TEACH account through NYSED
  • Daily correspondence with students to confirm their placements
  • Prepare official letters of request for the placement coordinator to send to multiple administrators throughout Long Island
  • Notify students with an official letter verifying their assignments and providing the student with additional paperwork/ applications required by the District
  • Maintain a portfolio of each student’s fieldwork and student teaching experience as they complete the program
  • Calculate and document student’s completed hours with the official Child Study Evaluation Forms at the end of every semester
  • Prepare multiple Placement Rosters for Method Course Instructors and Student Teaching Supervisors with student assignments
  • Maintain a record of the specific schools/ districts occupied every semester for Special Education fieldwork requirements

Skills

  • Secretarial sorting, filing 
  • Basic organization skills 
  • Skills in typing, background with computer functions 
  • Organized in keeping a portfolio of students’ assignments, completed course requirements, and history of experience in the field
  • Collaboration and positive interpersonal skills 
  • EXCEL, WORD and Microsoft Office experience 
  • Must be knowledgeable in all Google Applications
