SJC Hosts Evening of Poetry with the Asia Project

February 12, 2015

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – February 12, 2015 – The Campus Activities Board (CAB) at St. Joseph’s College (SJC) will host an evening of poetry performed by The Asia Project, a group of spoken word artists, on Wednesday, February 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Third Floor Lounge of O’Connor Hall on the College’s Long Island Campus.

Combining words and music, The Asia Project creates shows that are inspirational and moving. They have performed at more than 450 colleges since 2010 and were named the Spoken Word Artist of the Year in 2013.

“The purpose of this event is to show how spoken word conveys emotions that the written word cannot express alone,” said Hugo Morales, assistant director of student activities and co-curricular programs at SJC. “Our hope is to get students involved by reading their own written work while increasing social awareness, building a deeper community among their peers and encouraging self-expression.”

This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. If any SJC students would like to share their original works of literature, they can stop by Room N301 in O’Connor Hall to sign up. For more information, email [email protected]
