PATCHOGUE, NY November 22, 2010 St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that it has partnered with Suffolk County Community College to provide full- and partial-tuition scholarships to SCCC graduates transferring to St. Josephs. SJC President S. Elizabeth A. Hill, C.S.J., J.D. and SCCC President Dr. Shaun McKay formalized the agreement at a signing ceremony on November 8 on the Colleges Long Island Campus. Students, faculty and staff from both colleges were in attendance, along with local legislators.

As part of the "Stay on Long Island initiative, a program intended to encourage talented students to continue their education locally in hopes that they will continue to live and work on Long Island, St. Josephs College is offering one full- and two partial-tuition scholarships to transfer students from each of the three SCCC campuses annually, with nine scholarships awarded in total each year.

"St. Josephs College is delighted to partner once again with Suffolk Community in this new, exciting initiative, said S. Elizabeth Hill. "I am grateful to Dr. McKay for proposing this scholarship program, and we look forward to working with SCCC in the future as we provide additional opportunities for all the students we serve.

Candidates for the awards must demonstrate superior academic achievement and show leadership through contributions to their college and local communities. Recipients are recommended by a committee from SCCC and final selections are made by a St. Josephs College scholarship committee.

"Through the Stay on Long Island initiative, we can cultivate and tap the intellectual capital of those individuals who have the best potential for transforming our region, and we will not lose them to outward migration, said Dr. McKay.
