SJC Professor Hosts Lecture on Children in the Arts

PATCHOGUE, NY NOVEMBER 20, 2012 St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that Wendy C. Turgeon, Ph.D., associate professor and chairperson of the Department of Philosophy on the Long Island Campus, recently served as a guest lecturer during the opening reception of the "Art of the Child exhibit at the Patchogue Art Museum, located in downtown Patchogue.

Dr. Turgeon spoke about the changing ways art is defined in society, the status of child art and childrens relationship to creativity in the arts. In addition to teaching, Dr. Turgeon has presented papers and workshops at conferences around the world and has published articles in magazines such as Thinking, Analytical Teaching and the International Journal for the Humanities. She is a member of the Awards Committee of the International Council of Philosophical Inquiry with Children and a participating editor in the APA pre-college philosophy journal, Questions.

The "Art of the Child exhibit is on display until Tuesday, December 4, and features the work of pre-kindergarten students from Holy Angels Regional Catholic School in Patchogue and the Montessori School in Medford. For more information, please visit www.patchogueartmuseum.com.
