July 22, 2012

PATCHOGUE, NY July 23, 2012 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it has received a state grant for $560,000 to continue its pre-kindergarten program through a partnership with the Lawrence School District. The College was officially awarded the one-year contract at the districts Board of Education meeting in early July.

SJC secured the grant through a competitive process in which interested agencies prepare responses to fill Lawrence School Districts initial request for a proposal to obtain funds made available by New York State Legislature. The grant is renewed on an annual basis.

The latest grant in Lawrence is the Colleges third successful proposal to attain funding for the Universal Pre-Kindergarten program, following two successful pre-kindergarten initiatives in the Patchogue-Medford and Freeport School Districts.

"The involvement of St. Josephs College in these programs demonstrates our belief that early childhood education plays a critical role in the development of children, said S. Mary Ann Cashin, chair of the Department of Child Study at SJC. "It ensures their success in learning.
