SJC to Host Rubik’s Cube Competition

Patchogue, N.Y August 19, 2010 St. Josephs College will host a Rubiks Cube Competition on Saturday, August 21, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center on its Long Island Campus.

Organized by SJC student and Rubiks Cube champion, Rowe Hessler, in connection with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Office of Student Life, the contest will bring more than 50 individuals from around the country and all over the world together to compete in a series of Rubiks Cube events ranging in levels of difficulty.

"I have enjoyed working with Rowe Hessler and [ACM President] Paul Scala in planning this event, Associate Director of Co-Curricular Programs Celeste Guarneri said. "Rowe is a huge talent and SJC is lucky to have him. I look forward to seeing this event on campus again.

The competition will conclude with the presentation of a prize bag, donated by the Office of Student Life, to the days winner. Contestants paid a $5 fee for themselves and guests upon registration. Proceeds will go towards the purchase of supplies and food for the event as well as a designated charity.

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) at St. Josephs College provides an extracurricular environment to accommodate the interests of students interested in computer science.
