SJC to Host Second Annual Rubik’s Cube Competition

PATCHOGUE, NY JANUARY 11, 2011 St. Josephs College will host its second annual Rubiks Cube Competition on Saturday, January 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the McGann Conference Center on its Long Island Campus.

Organized by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Office of Student Life at St. Josephs College, the contest will bring more than 150 individuals from around the country and all over the world together to compete in a series of Rubiks Cube events ranging in levels of difficulty.

"This competition will be even better than last year, said Rubik's Cube world record holder and president of ACM at SJC Rowe Hessler. "We already have many people registered and expect more."

Competitors will race to complete 2x2 cubes, 3x3 cubes, 4x4 cubes and 5x5 cubes, and participate in blind-folded and one-handed events. Proceeds from the tournament will go towards the purchase of supplies and food for the event as well as a designated charity.

"As always, I am excited to work with students in the planning of interesting and dynamic events such as this second annual Rubiks Cube Competition, said Associate Director of Co-Curricular Programs Celeste Guarneri. "I hope that this event continues to have a home here at SJC in the future.
