SJC Welcomes Caitlin Shetterly

Patchogue and Brooklyn, N.Y. – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to welcome Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow Caitlin Shetterly to SJC Long Island on April 3 and 4 and SJC Brooklyn on April 5 and 6.

Shetterly is currently reporting for the New York Times. Her writing has been featured in The New York Times Magazine, ELLE Magazine and Self Magazine. Shetterly is also the best-selling author of Made for You and Me: Going West, Going Broke, Finding Home; Fault Lines: Stories of Divorce and most recently, Modified: GMOs and the Threat to Our Food, Our Land, Our Future.

“Our students and faculty on both campuses are very excited about Ms. Shetterly's visit,” said Mik Larson, associate dean for new initiatives at SJC Brooklyn. “Not only has she written on a number of important and increasingly relevant subjects, but her insights into the nonfiction and journalistic writing processes, publishing for popular media, and experience as a woman in all of these arenas, will contribute to engaging and informative discussions.”

While at SJC Long Island, Shetterly will discuss writing, gender roles and expectations, and public advocacy on Monday, April 3 at 1 p.m. On Tuesday, April 4 at 6:30 p.m., she will discuss her new book Modified: GMOs and the Threat to Our Food, Our Land, Our Future and host a book signing. Throughout the two days on campus, Shetterly will also visit classes to conduct more intimate student discussions and lead faculty writing workshops.

On Wednesday, April 5, Shetterly will visit SJC Brooklyn to discuss Modified and hold a signing at 6:30 p.m. While on campus, she will also speak to classes and host writing workshops for faculty and students.
