St. Joseph’s College and Suffolk County Community College Amend Articulation Agreement

October 01, 2014

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – OCTOBER 1, 2014 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) and Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) have amended a pre-existing articulation agreement between the two colleges from December 2011 to include the transfer of students from SCCC’s Human Services program to the Human Services program at SJC. The agreement was signed by SJC President Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D., and SCCC President Shaun L. McKay, Ed.D.

“Of late, community and political leaders are emphasizing the need to keep young people and families on Long Island, and to encourage others to locate here,” said Dr. Christopher Frost, executive academic dean for SJC’s Long Island Campus. “To accomplish that end, we need to move diligently to promote ‘livability’ across our communities, and that is precisely what SJC and SCCC continue to do—together.”

The amendment was created to foster the pre-existing mutually-beneficial relationship between the two Long Island colleges and a commitment to work together. Last year, a similar addendum was made for the Hotel and Resort Management program at SCCC and the Hospitality and Tourism Management program at SJC. This recent change will assist students who have earned the 64 credits needed for an associate’s degree from SCCC in Human Services to obtain a bachelor’s degree by obtaining 64 additional credits in Human Services from SJC, and create a smoother transfer process.

“Human Services benefit the well-being of community members by preparing students for service in a broad range of career paths: addictions counselors, mental health workers, assisted living managers, outreach workers and more. By strengthening our partnership with SCCC, our two institutions are helping students identify new and deeper career pathways, and help to move Long Island forward—economically and otherwise—by promoting healthy, livable communities,” said Dr. Frost.
