PATCHOGUE, N.Y. MAY 12, 2014 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it hosted the annual Suffolk County Golden Games, an athletic competition among senior citizens, on Friday, May 9 on the Colleges Long Island Campus in Patchogue, N.Y.

"This event promotes more than just medals for our participants, said Linda Schoepfer, director of therapeutic recreation at Westhampton Care Center and Suffolk County Golden Games Association board member. "This event is an all-around positive experience that provides energy, inspiration and confidence to all who are involved. Our goal is to let the best team win but most importantly, always part in friendship.

Founded in 1989 by Karen Nash, director of therapeutic recreation at Gurwin Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, the annual event brings residents from 12 Suffolk County nursing home facilities together to compete in adaptive sporting events such as wheelchair relay, volleyball, basketball, bowling and distance throw.
