HTM Student Awarded NYS Hospitality and Tourism Scholarship

June 21, 2018

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – June 21, 2018 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that hospitality and tourism management (HTM) major Tamara Marone ’19 of Smithtown, New York, has been awarded the Fred and Gertrude England Hospitality Education Foundation’s Scholarship from the New York State Hospitality and Tourism Association (NYSH&TA).

Marone will be recognized at an award recognition event hosted by NYSH&TA in Saratoga, New York, this summer. The scholarship is awarded to students who are majoring in the hospitality field and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.50.
“I am so grateful to receive this scholarship, but I couldn't have done it without St. Joseph’s College,” said Marone. “Most importantly, I owe it to Professor Ferro [Tina Ferro, chair of SJC Long Island’s HTM program], who has been in my corner every step of the way to support and guide me. Her passion for hospitality has helped pave this road.”

Launched in 2013, SJC’s B.S. in Hospitality and Tourism Management offers three distinct areas of concentration—Tourism, Hotel Management and Health Care Hospitality—designed to afford students a variety of pathways to pursue a broad range of career choices that align with the most recent trends in employment in the New York region. The program also provides students with unique internship opportunities, giving them practical experience in their chosen fields before they graduate.

NYSH&TA officially incorporated its scholarship fund into an Education Foundation in 1999. Its mission is to assist in the educational development of hospitality students by offering individual scholarships to member employees and/or their dependents.
