Psychology major
Class of 2016

"Thinking back to when I was a child, I was always the person that someone would come to talk with. I always found it so rewarding how something as little as being available can have a profound impact. My journey throughout St. Joseph's College has led me to finding my dream profession."

Six Months After Graduation

"St. Joseph's has really prepared me academically to say the least for masters-level work I am doing."

"I just started the MSW program at Stony Brook School of social welfare in September. So far I am really enjoying the program and feel as though many of the concepts learned in my psychology classes during my undergraduate career carry over to the classes I am taking now.

"St. Joseph's has really prepared me academically to say the least for masters-level work I am doing. I am currently interning in the social work department at Nesconset Center for Nursing and rehabilitation. I am really enjoying my time at this facility and can see myself working with the elderly population of individuals."

Fall 2015 • Senior Year

"St. Joseph’s College encourages its students to take risks and explore new opportunities that can further assist in our career paths. Our motto, Esse non videri — “To be, not to seem” has brought such a profound impact on my life, both professionally and personally. For myself, this quote is the core of my aspirations in working towards my bachelor’s degree in the field of psychology. Our small campus community better allowed me to form bonds with my fellow students and become more involved. I would not trade my experiences at SJC for anything in the world.

"I have been a member and am now the president of St. Joseph's College Psychology Club. In addition, I recently was elected president of Psi Chi and am working to advance the progress of the local chapter. I am very involved with the Psychology Department through my work study position as a secretary. I have been involved with Dr. Treboux's research team since sophomore year. I am a member of multiple honor societies including Gamma Tau Delta, Delta Epsilon Sigma. I have been on the deans list for four consecutive years.

The professors at St. Joseph's College are student-oriented and want to see you succeed.

"Thinking back to when I was a child, I was always the person that someone would come to talk to with. I always found it so rewarding how something as little as being available to listen to what another individual has to say can have a profound impact on their lives. My journey throughout St. Joseph's College has led me to finding my dream profession.

"After SJC, I plan to continue my studies and obtain a masters degree in social work and further get my LMSW.

"I have learned that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I have discovered leadership qualities that I would not have known I possessed if it hadn't been for the numerous extracurricular activities available at St. Joseph's College.

"I hope to maintain long-lasting friendships with students and professors I have met at St. Joseph's College."

Who was your favorite SJC professor?

"I would have to say among all of the professors have taken at St. Joseph's College, Dr. Dominique Treboux has had the most impact on my life. Her commitment for her students as well as her support has transformed me as a student. Her passion and knowledge for psychology has fostered my love for psychology. "

What has been the biggest influence on your life?

"My grandmother has overcome many health issues. Her strength has been the foundation for any and all success that I’ve had thus far in my life."

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

"I would definitely say Zooey Deschanel because her quirkiness resembles myself. "

Have you been a part of any service activities that were meaningful to you?

"I have always wanted to make a difference in this world. This summer I had the opportunity to intern at Pax Christi Hospitality Center. This is a male homeless shelter. Being available to listen to their stories and how much they have struggled has confirmed my decision to work in the field of social work. It truly transformed my life. "

Favorite book? Quote?

"I do not have a favorite book, but my favorite author is John Green."
