"I had always wanted to stay home for school, therefore when my older sister started attending SJC I was able to learn about the school. SJC was a perfect fit for me, I was accepted into the honors program and learned of all the amazing opportunities that the school had for me. It's been a very enjoyable experience, I have met some of my best friends through the honors program and had the privilege of traveling to Europe with them. I am so happy that I decided to attend SJC.
"After graduation, I plan to use my degree to work with underprivileged youth. I hope to either be a mentor, counselor or even a care manager to help young people and show them that they are significant. My heart is to be a voice to the voiceless and to be able to impact one life because everyone deserves to be heard and acknowledged regardless of their 'status.'
"I had always had a heart to help and this career field allows me to do that every day. Although at times it will get challenging to hear the stories of what some of these youth had to deal with, being able to be someone to listen and guide them will definitely be worth it.
"I hope that the friendships I have made at SJC will last a lifetime."
"I have recently read a book called Breaking Night: A Memoir of Forgiveness, Survival, and My Journey from Homeless to Harvard. It has become my favorite because of the inspiring story of the author. It's an eye-opening book to what some children have to deal with during their childhood because of neglectful parents, their economic status and other factors.
"We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand."
Have you been involved in any organizations on campus?
"I am involved in Relay For Life. I have been participating since my freshman year and have been on the committee for the event for the last two years. It's a great honor to be involved on the committee and to see how big of an impact this event has on those battling with cancer."
What do you do in your spare time?
"One of my favorite activities is cooking. I lovemaking homemade meals and seeing others enjoy them. Also, I have recently started taking piano lessons again. It is something that I stopped when I was younger and I am very glad that I am taking them again. It's such a relaxing and rewarding experience every time I sit down at the piano. Recently, I have become interested in art due to taking a drawing class at SJC. I never realized how great of an experience it is to actually see a visual of all your hard work. It's become one of my favorite hobbies!"
