"Choose St. Joseph's College because you will be given the opportunity to make real relationships with your professors."
Class of 2018
I knew I wanted to stay home for college so SJC seemed like the best fit. I loved that SJC had small class sizes in which students had the opportunity to interact with each other and the professors.
I felt comfortable when I visited SJC, which was a clear indicator that this was the college I was meant to attend. So far, my experience at St. Joseph's has been extremely rewarding. I have taken advantage of many opportunities St. Joe's has to offer and have grown tremendously in the process.
After graduation I plan to go onto graduate school to earn my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.
Growing Into Psychology
"I knew I wanted to make a difference in someone's life, but I just didn't know exactly how."
After high school, I knew that psychology was of interest to me so I decided to take some psychology courses in college. After enrolling in some classes, I knew this was the field that I wanted to pursue. Each of the professors in the psychology department have inspired me to go into this field after learning more about their careers and experiences.
I knew I wanted to make a difference in someone's life, but I just didn't know exactly how. I used to dream of being a lawyer, but after discovering psychology, I realized that my skills would be more utilized in the clinical field.
The SJC Difference
Choose St. Joseph's College because you will be given the opportunity to make real relationships with your professors. The small class size provides an intimate setting in which your professors can get to know you personally. This has put me at a tremendous advantage than if I went to a bigger school because I have professors who know me and help guide me in my individual career path.
I hope to make long lasting friendships and to earn more about myself in the process. After completing my time at St. Joe's I hope to be able to gain a fuller perspective on the world around me.
The best advice someone has given me was to "just say yes" when given the opportunity to do something new. If I was never given this advice, I may have never said yes to traveling abroad to Oxford or to taking on an executive position in clubs. The whole idea behind saying yes is to live beyond your comfort zone and to take advantage of each opportunity. This advice has shaped me into the person I am today and has enhanced my experience at St. Joseph's College.
"I learned that I love to be a leader. I never thought that I would be on the executive board of a club, but here I am on two!"
My favorite quote is "Everything happens for a reason." This quote is a great reminder that everything in life such as people we encounter, classes we take, jobs we accept, help to shape us into the the people we are for a reason. Not one experience is wasted. This is an encouragement to not be afraid to venture out and do something outside of your comfort zone. We can learn and grow from every experience, good or bad.
