Admissions Process and Requirements for the M.A. and Advanced Certificate in TESOL Programs

Admission Requirements

TESOL M.A. Program

  • Bachelors' degree in some area of education with a minimum GPA of a 3.0
  • Initial teaching certification 
  • 12 undergraduate credits in a foreign language
  • 6 undergraduate credits in each of the following: english, history, math, science
  • Two letters of recommendation. One from an academic source and one from a professional source.

TESOL Advanced Certificate

  • Master's degree in some area of education with a minimum GPA of a 3.0
  • Initial teaching certification 
  • 12 undergraduate credits in a foreign language
  • 6 undergraduate credits in each of the following: english, history, math, science
  • Two letters of recommendation. One from an academic source and one from a professional source.

Items to be Submitted with Application

  • An application accompanied by a non-refundable fee of $25
  • Official Transcripts from all prior institutions and proof of bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution 
  • Two completed letters of recommendation forms. One from an academic source and one from a professional source.
  • A copy of your teacher certification (if your certification is pending please submit it to us as soon as it is issued).

Admission Process

  • The admissions department will contact the applicant to arrange an appointment once the application is submitted.
  • New York State requires all students born on or after January 1, 1957 to be immunized against measles, mumps and rubella. Proof of immunity must be submitted to the Office of Graduate Management Studies prior to enrollment. In addition, students must complete a Meningococcal Meningitis Vaccination Response Form as required by New York State Public Health Law.
