Where did you meet?
In Danielle's first semester, we were both in Charles Lundin's Western Civilization class at SJC in 2008.
Did you take any classes together?
We had a bunch of classes together! Western Civilization, China, Math, History of NY, Music, Renaissance & Reformation, Political Science
Did a classmate introduce you?
No..we kind of gravitated towards each other in class. It just so happened that we had a few mutual friends and we didn't even realize.
Did you join a club to get closer together?
We both individually decided to go on the Newman Club retreat. While on retreat for the weekend, we got to know each other better. We both joined Newman Club from there and the friendship grew stronger.
Favorite budding SJC romance story?
Similar to the Mean Girls movie, Danielle would ask Sal for help in class when she didn't really need it. He spent one day in the computer lab with her going over Chicago Style for a history paper they had to write in Western Civilization. Danielle sat there and listened to him try to explain it to her, when she knew the whole time! She appreciated how willing he was to make sure she understood!
Where was your first date?
Our first formal date was at Cheesecake Factory and the movies. We saw the movie Up.
Did you (or will you) name your child "Joseph/Josephine"?
On July 12, 2014, Sal took me to Westbury Gardens to propose. That place was special to us because we celebrated one of our many anniversaries there in the past. He proposed in the rose garden, but he couldn't have anyone there to capture the exact moment when he got down on one knee because I would've noticed (I notice everything) lol. He had one of our friends come after to take pictures in the gardens. He then took me back to his dad's house where our family and friends were waiting in the backyard to surprise me! There was a big surprise party waiting for us.
Relationship advice for current students:
Our relationship advice would be to always have fun together! Spend your days laughing with each other! There will be times of stress, but make sure to always have each other's backs. Support for one another is key!
What's your message to the SJC community on Valentine's Day?
Always have an open mind when meeting new people because you may find love in the most unexpected places at the most unexpected times!
