"After my mother’s passing a few years ago, I struggled greatly with her death. I realized I wanted to help children and teens that feel they do not have any one to turn to for help, and lead them on the right path. I plan on entering a doctoral program straight after college to become a clinical child and adolescents psychologist. I'd like to have my own outpatient therapy clinic."
"My time at St. Joseph’s College has been a blessing. I decided to come here because of a scholarship, but I decided to stay here because of the wonderful people I met. I went on a 10-day trip to Rome and Florence in Italy with the honors program during spring break of my sophomore year. This was my first time traveling to Europe as an adult, and it was even better that I was able to go with my best friends."
When I first came to St. Joseph’s, I didn’t plan on having the type of college career that I had. The reason why I had the positive experience that I did is because the family embraced me and brought the best out of me. I’ve seen so many people come out of their comfort zones and are now better versions of themselves than when they first came to the school.
"I knew 10 minutes into my Open House tour that St. Joseph’s was for me. SJC showed me that college isn’t a factory that takes high-schoolers in and chugs graduates out. It’s a community where people know who you are. I recently enrolled in Emory University’s doctoral program in biomolecular chemistry, so I’ll be moving to Atlanta at the end of the summer and getting ready for research and more learning."
"Every business no matter the industry has marketing needs, so there will always be jobs available, making it a great entry level degree to have. After graduation I plan to start a media production/tech startup called "Barjuewaye Connections" out of an office I'll be opening up in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn."
Psychology and Criminal Justice
Karla Blanco is a recipient of a four-year presidential scholarship at St. Joseph’s. As is the case with many of our research students, Karla chose SJC for its small, intimate research labs and hands-on instruction from faculty. One-on-one attention from department chairs Dr. Morrell and Dr. Treboux led Karla hone her interests in a psychology/criminal justice double major.
