SJC Administrator Wins Counselor Award

PATCHOGUE, NY JUNE 8, 2010 St. Josephs College is pleased to announce that Gigi Lamens, associate vice president for enrollment management and director of admissions for the Colleges Long Island Campus, was a recent recipient of the Western Suffolk Counselors' Association (WSCA) Service Award for her commitment to service, exemplary work and outstanding support to the counseling profession for the past 20 years. St. Josephs College was also recognized by the WSCA with the Diamond Award, which honors institutions that continuously foster the role of the high school counselor.

"St. Josephs College is so fortunate to have Gigi Lamens as part of the College Community, said Theresa LaRocca Meyer, vice president for enrollment management at SJC. "Gigi is an outstanding professional and administrator and has earned a wonderful reputation in the field of admissions and enrollment management.

Considered an expert in many aspects of the SAT program, Ms. Lamens takes leadership roles on various College Board committees, including the National Advisory Committee for the SAT, the National Guidance and Admissions Council and the New York State Advisory Council. She is also the founder and advisory board co-chair of the Long Island Educational Awareness Partnership (LIEAP), which is an organization that expands awareness of educational opportunities after high school among Long Island students and families, particularly those least likely to consider post-secondary education.

"In the last four years, Gigi Lamens has been there to assist and encourage the excellence of the guidance community in any way needed, said Kate Rowe Ed.D., dean of enrollment management for Suffolk Community College and president of the WSCA. "Gigi has always been there with a commitment to service. She is a credit to St. Josephs College and to the counseling community.

The Western Suffolk Counselors Association (WSCA) is a professional organization for individuals engaged in, or interested in, any phase of counseling. Membership includes school counselors in public and private schools, mental health counselors, college admissions counselors, career counselors and professors and students in the field of counseling.
