May 19, 2014 BK LI

BROOKLYN AND PATCHOGUE, N.Y. MAY 20, 2014 St. Josephs College (SJC) will hold its 24th Annual Golf Classic on Monday, June 9 at the Plandome Country Club in Plandome, N.Y. The 2014 honoree is Don Lizak, former athletic director of SJCs Long Island Campus. All proceeds from this event will support the Colleges athletic programs.

Since 1994, Don Lizak worked to transform SJC athletics into the highly regarded athletic program that it is today. After becoming an NCAA Division III institution in 1997, SJC won the Skyline Conference Presidents Cup four times and grew from eight varsity sports to 19. During his tenure at the College, Lizak oversaw the opening of the John A. Danzi Athletic Center in 1997 and the 24.8-acre Outdoor Field Complex in 2012. He spent 38 years in athletic administration and coaching with stints at Long Island University, Wagner College, St. Johns University and Queens College, and as a tournament director for the Metropolitan PGA. At the end of 2013, Lizak retired from SJC after 19 years of dedicated service.

"Don Lizak has been an extraordinary director of athletics for St. Joseph's College, said Nancy Connors, vice president for the Office of Institutional Advancement at SJC. "It is fitting that the entire SJC community honor him at this event, which raises funds for athletics. We wish Don every success in his next chapter.
