PATCHOGUE, NY APRIL 26, 2010 St. Josephs College will host the 10th Annual Greater New York Area Regional High School Programming Competition on May 18 in the Business Technology Center on its Long Island Campus. Registration begins at 11 a.m.; the competition will run from 12:15-2:45 p.m.

Students representing high schools across Nassau and Suffolk Counties as well as New York City will compete in this event. An awards ceremony, including dinner, will be held in the McGann Conference Center at the conclusion of the competition.

"By providing a focal point for their studies, the competition has encouraged high school students to explore the field of computer science, and in doing so, continue the rich technological tradition of our region," said William McAllister, founder of the Greater New York Area Regional High School Programming Competition and professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at St. Josephs College.

Over the past 10 years, more than 1,000 students have participated in the competition. This year, 156 students from Long Island and New York City will compete.
