Students Present Works at National English Conference

St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that two students majoring in English recently presented research papers at the Streamlines Language and Literature Conference, an undergraduate conference that celebrates language, literature and writing, at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa.

Brian Hicks and Laura Dellova were among a group of students from across the country chosen to participate in panel discussions and present their papers on scholarly and creative work, linguistics, foreign language and rhetoric.

"We are very proud of Brian and Laura and their wonderful accomplishments, said Judith R. Phagan, Ph.D., associate professor and chairperson, Department of English on SJCs Long Island Campus.

"There are so many talented students at SJC and we hope to have more students papers accepted at competitive national conferences. This is especially important for our students who plan to enter the professoriate.

Brian Hicks, president of the International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta at SJC, presented his paper, "Written Authority and Lived Experience: Enemies or Allies? In March 2012, Mr. Hicks presented at the New Critics Conference, which also published his paper.

Laura Dellova presented her paper, "The Pardoners Tale and Karma, for the first time at the Streamlines Conference.  Ms. Dellova hopes to continue pursuing her love of English in her graduate studies.
