Responsible for all aspects of the University’s computer network. Direct the network systems engineering, implementation, administration, and operations processes. Ensure the best use of the network resources by defining and planning the network system goals. Participate in the development and execution of the University’s information security program. The Director will determine the need for new products and systems based on budget, organizational needs, and improvements in technology. Work closely with functional areas in the organization to ensure that the network is meeting the needs of the University. The overarching goal is to ensure the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of the network and information.

Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Full hands-on knowledge regarding network systems, system strategy, troubleshooting, and network maintenance.
  • Manage the members of the network team.
  • Monitor the performance and availability of the network.
  • Recommend, plan, and implement upgrades/changes as needed.
  • Troubleshoot network access problems.
  • Establish network operating policies.
  • Ensure network security.
  • Respond to network cyber-security threats
  • Drive the planning, design, implementation, organization, and operation of the organization’s network systems.
  • Provide ongoing review of capacity requirements to align with the network budget.
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all network systems and data centers including storage, virtual infrastructure, operating systems, databases, switches, routers, firewalls, and server hardware.
  • Assure adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.
  • Keep departmental management informed of project status and issues as required.
  • Prepare and keep current documentation on all managed systems, including disaster recovery plans.
  • Provide technical expertise for project management, change management, and serve as an escalation resource for all technical network needs.
  • Coordinate and communicate closely with management and help desk during all outages.
  • Provide strategic risk guidance for IT projects, including evaluation and recommendation of technical controls.
  • Conduct vendor risk assessments.
  • Coordinate the IT component of our internal annual audit to ensure network security programs comply with relevant regulations and policies.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience as a network engineer or related position.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant regulations and standards such as ISO 27000, HIPAA, DPR, etc.
  • Experience with risk management methodologies and frameworks.
  • Strong customer service skills and experience in managing people, projects, and budgets.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Network design and architecture best practices such as TCP/IP, Routing Protocols & Network-Telephony availability protocols.
  • Knowledge and Experience with modern network architecture trends. (SDN, SD-WAN, NFV, etc...)
  • Must be able to prioritize projects and help requests and see them through to completion.
  • Must be able to clearly communicate technical information and concepts to non-technical people.

Education

Advanced degree is strongly preferred; a bachelor’s degree is required. A degree in Computer Science or related fields is also preferred.
