Health CORE to Host Medicare Lecture

BROOKLYN, NY March 29, 2012 As part of its Expert Lecture Series, St. Josephs College Health CORE (Center for Outreach, Research and Education), will host two free informational seminars, entitled, "Knowing Your Medicare Benefits, on Thursday, April 19 at 12:40 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the St. Angela Hall Auditorium on the Brooklyn Campus of St. Josephs College. This event is free and open to the public.

Frank Winters, partnership manager at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, will present an overview of Medicare and discuss how best to utilize this important benefit. In his talk, he will discuss the four component plans that make up Medicare, how to access benefits, recent changes to the benefit structure, the closing of the Part D  prescription plan "donut hole, and how to secure assistance for premium payments.

"For many of our seniors and disabled citizens, Medicare is a vital social program but some of its complexities lead to poor choices, said John Sardelis, Dr.P.H., associate chairperson in the Department of Health Administration at St. Josephs College. "We invite all to come and hear the experts explain it all in plain language and make sure that you are making the best decisions for your health care.
