SJC Brooklyn Appoints New VP for Academic Affairs

July 05, 2016

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – July 6, 2016 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Barbara Garii, Ph.D., will serve as the College’s vice president for academic affairs at SJC Brooklyn, effective July 18.

“After a nationwide search, I am delighted to welcome Dr. Garii to SJC Brooklyn as its next vice president for academic affairs,” said Jack P. Calareso, Ph.D., president of SJC. “Her rich experience as both an administrator and educator make her an ideal choice to lead SJC Brooklyn's academic programs at this time in the College's history.”

Dr. Garii will assume responsibility for all areas related to academic programs, faculty and all academic personnel at SJC Brooklyn. She will work collaboratively with SJC Long Island’s vice president for academic affairs to provide oversight of the Office of Registrar, McEntegart and Callahan libraries, and faculty committees. In addition, she will serve as a member of SJC’s President’s Council.

Formerly the dean of LIU/Post’s College of Education, Information and Technology, Dr. Garii spearheaded initiatives that streamlined the accreditation process across several campuses and reoriented several academic programs to reflect the needs of the regional job marketplace. She has also served as the associate dean of the School of Education at the State University of New York at Oswego.

“St. Joseph’s has a long tradition of excellence and I welcome this new opportunity,” said Dr. Garii. “I look forward to working with the distinguished faculty at SJC Brooklyn to build upon their good work to advance the College’s mission in the communities it serves.”

Dr. Garii holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University, an M.A. from Seattle University and a Ph.D. from the University of Washington.
