SJC Brooklyn to Host Nike Basketball Camp

July 14, 2016

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – July 14, 2016 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will host Nike Basketball Camp, a nationwide camp program that helps young basketball players develop their skills, at SJC Brooklyn from Monday, August 1 until Thursday, August 4.

With the help of State Assemblyman Walter Mosley’s (NY-57) long-standing support and commitment to providing Brooklyn youth with safe, affordable options for summer enrichment, SJC is able to host the camp and serve local youths seeking to enhance their basketball skills while learning, having fun and making new friends.

“It is crucial that young people do not remain idle during the summer months and let their bodies and minds wither and atrophy,” said Assemblyman Mosley. “By bringing together two highly respected organizations, we are able to ensure that our young people have an opportunity to receive the best coaching in a state-of-the-art, new facility in the heart of Brooklyn.”

The co-ed basketball camp will help players of all abilities develop athletically, refine fundamental basketball skills and enhance player skill sets at multiple positions. Emphasis will be placed on team play, shooting, offensive moves, defensive strategy and rebounding. With a 10:1 coach to camper ratio, individualized assessment, and nutritional and off-court advice, campers will receive a unique experience that will improve their on-court game.

“Nike basketball camps are well-known for the quality sport education and skills enhancement they provide,” said Shantey Hill, assistant vice president and senior director of athletics at SJC. “We are honored to assist in providing such positive athletic experiences for young athletes by hosting a camp at the Hill Center, and we look forward to building a partnership for many years to come.”
