Many St. Joseph’s students receive National Science Foundation and National Institute of Health grants, as well as acceptance into a number of prestigious facilities throughout the country, including Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Ames Laboratory at Iowa State University and Columbia University's Biosphere 2 Program in Arizona.
Beginning junior year, all majors start preparing a thesis on original research under the direction of a faculty adviser. Students then identify an experimental problem to be developed and delineated in their senior year thesis. Each year students present their field, internship and thesis work at the annual St. Joseph’s College Undergraduate Research Symposium (sjcugresearch.wordpress.com). Several students’ work has been recognized by regional and national scientific organizations.
