Alumnus Honored by IABC

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – June 5, 2015 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that Dylan Gafarian ’15 was chosen to receive the 2015 Communications Student Achievement Award at the International Association of Business Communicator’s (IABC) Annual Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, June 10. The event recognizes communications leaders on Long Island, focusing this year on individuals who have demonstrated significant achievement related to branding or re-branding initiatives.

Gafarian received a B.S. in Journalism and New Media Studies from SJC Long Island. He created the College’s first radio station, SJC Radio, in 2012 and served as station manager and mentor to a team of more than 30 students for on-air programming, branding and promotion.

“St. Joseph's College has given me the tools to be successful and it is a terrific honor to be recognized by IABC,” said Gafarian. “Thank you, IABC and the SJC community for your continuous support. Also, congratulations to my fellow honorees for receiving such an esteemed honor.”

In addition to his duties with SJC Radio, Gafarian was president of SJC Long Island’s chapter of the National Communication Association, program director of the Campus Activities Board and member of the Orientation Team and Student Leadership Experience. He also created and hosted the weekly webisode series, “Weekday Update,” which promoted upcoming events on campus.

Gafarian lives in Farmingville, New York. He will be attending Hofstra University’s M.S.Ed. in Higher Education Leadership and Policy Studies program in the fall.
