SJC Announces New Advanced Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis

Patchogue, N.Y. – October 13, 2015 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce the addition of a new advanced certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis at SJC Long Island. This certificate is the first to be fully approved by New York State, and SJC students will be among the first to obtain the most recent ABA certification offered.

Prior to enrollment, students must possess a master’s degree in behavioral analysis, education, psychology or a related field, and a minimum 3.0 GPA. The 25-credit advanced certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis will result in licensure as a Licensed Behavior Analyst in New York State. The certificate will also include six elective credits of optional intensive supervised practicum for those seeking Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification. Upon completion, students will also be eligible to sit for the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) examination.

“As licensed behavior analysts, students will have the opportunity to work with individuals who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum or related disorders in a variety of public and private settings, including schools, homes, day programs, communities, residential and vocational training settings, businesses and related human service agencies,” said Katherine Granelli, Ed.D., associate professor and director of the M.A. in Infant/Toddler Early Childhood Special Education and Advanced Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis at SJC Long Island.

Courses included in the certificate are designed to provide enriched theory, comprehensive training, evaluation and supervision in applied behavioral analysis as it relates to autism spectrum and related disorders. Examples of required courses include: Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Behavioral Perspective; Ethics for Behavior Analysis; Maintenance of Student Records and Applying Behavior Analysis Technology.
