September 13, 2012

PATCHOGUE, NY SEPTEMBER 14, 2012 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will partner with the Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center, a nearby theater and arts facility located in downtown Patchogue, to sponsor a number of projects throughout the 2012-2013 academic year.

In collaboration with SJC, the Plaza will sponsor the Colleges newly emerging film club, offer internships to SJC students in the fields of business, marketing, media and arts, and host film screenings in connection with one of SJCs film classes, The Language of Film, taught by Peter Mascuch, Ph.D., associate professor of English and American studies and coordinator of the film media studies program at SJC. The film series will include screenings of Vertigo (October 18), The Killing (November 15) and Bonnie and Clyde (December 6).

"The chance to see American cinema classics on a big screen should be educational and entertaining for both SJC students and interested film-goers alike, said Dr. Mascuch. "The chance to partner on these projects with the Plaza is an exciting opportunity for the Colleges growing film and media studies program. Joining one of Patchogues newest and most vital cultural institutions will be a great benefit to SJC students.

The Plaza Cinema and Media Arts Center is a non-profit public charity organization dedicated to bringing the magic and power of movies and filmmaking to the hearts and minds of the community. On a weekly basis, the Plaza provides the Patchogue community with current, quality independent films from around the world while offering special films for children and cultural programming such as broadcasts of operas and ballet from the world stage. Starting in 2013, the Plaza will be offering classes in screenwriting, editing and film production.
