SJC Partners with Veterans Health Alliance of Long Island

PATCHOGUE, NY SEPTEMBER 6, 2012 St. Josephs College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will partner with the Veterans Health Alliance of Long Island (VHALI) to enhance clubs, programs and counseling for veterans on its Long Island Campus.

After receiving a grant from the Long Island Community Foundation to assist Veterans in the Long Island area, the VHALI selected SJC and Adelphi University for its campaign to reach out to veterans on college campuses. SJC was chosen largely because of its commitment to serving Long Islands large veteran population both in and out of the classroom, earning a spot as one of G.I. Jobs Magazines "Top Military-Friendly Colleges, in February 2012.

As part of its partnership with SJC, VHALI will send a representative to SJCs recently established veterans lounge on its Long Island Campus once a week for the 2012-13 academic year to enhance veterans clubs and programs, establish peer support groups and work with students who have served in the United States military to establish veterans advocacy campaigns.

The mission of the VHALI of Long Island, a project of the Mental Health Association (MHA) of Nassau County, is to promote the health and well-being of Long Island veterans and their families through advocacy, and a broad array of services. In an effort to better provide support for Long Islands veterans, the VHALI seeks to connect with veterans and their family members to educate them about the availability of veterans benefits and services.

The Mental Health Association (MHA) of Nassau County was established in 1953, and is a not-for-profit membership organization dedicated to improving mental health through advocacy, education, program development and the delivery of direct services.
