SJC Student Athletes Honored at 20th Annual Golf Tournament

PATCHOGUE, NY June 18, 2010 St. Josephs College honored two student athletes from its Long Island Campus at the 20th Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, June 7 for their combined academic excellence and athletic achievements.

Trish McMahon is the womens basketball teams all-time leading scorer with 1,407 points and is second in rebounding with 826. Last season, she led her teammates to a 15-12 record, their best since 1999-2000. She graduated summa cum laude in 2010 from the Department of Child Study at St. Josephs College, where she remained on the Deans List for all four years of her college career and was a member of both the Sigma Iota Chi and the Delta Epsilon Sigma honor societies. Trish is a graduate of Patchogue-Medford High School and currently resides in Patchogue, NY with her parents and two younger sisters.

Michael Gerdes is an All-American and Gold Glove second baseman who broke the single-season record in hits (61) and runs (44) for the mens baseball team in 2008. Last season, he led the team in runs (36), stolen bases (17) and was second in batting average (.356), on-base percentage (.469), hits (42) and walks (17). Michael has a 3.5 GPA and has remained on the Deans List since his sophomore year. Michael graduated from MacArthur High School and lives in Wantagh, NY with his parents and twin younger sisters.
